Sports Recovery & Performance
Whether you're training for competition, returning from injury, or simply want to move and perform at your best, myotherapy provides the targeted muscular care your body needs to recover, adapt, and stay resilient.
Book Your TreatmentWhy Recovery Matters as Much as Training
Training creates the stimulus for improvement, but adaptation happens during recovery. When the body does not recover adequately between sessions, performance can plateau, niggles may develop, and the risk of injury increases. This is true for elite athletes and weekend warriors alike.
Muscular tightness, trigger points, and fascial restrictions are a normal consequence of training load. They become problematic when they accumulate faster than the body can resolve them. Tight hip flexors from cycling, overworked calves from running, shoulder tension from swimming or lifting — these imbalances can gradually alter movement patterns and set the stage for strain or injury.
Remedial massage and myotherapy sit at the intersection of recovery and injury prevention. They go beyond a general sports massage by assessing and treating the specific areas of tension, restriction, or imbalance that affect your performance and longevity in your chosen sport or activity.
Sports-Related Issues We Treat
Active individuals present with a wide range of muscular complaints. Common issues include:
-
Muscle tightness and restricted range — hamstrings, hip flexors, calves, and shoulders that feel chronically tight despite regular stretching.
-
Recurring niggles and strains — minor injuries that keep returning, often signalling an underlying muscular imbalance or compensation pattern.
-
Post-event soreness and fatigue — delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and general muscular fatigue after training or competition.
-
Tendon and overuse pain — conditions such as Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, and IT band syndrome where muscle tension and compensation contribute to tendon overload.
-
Return to sport after injury — rebuilding confidence and addressing residual tension patterns after a period of rehabilitation.
How We Support Your Performance
Our approach is assessment-driven — your therapist identifies the specific muscles that are overloaded, underactive, or restricted and builds a treatment plan around your sport, training cycle, and goals.
Treatment may include deep tissue massage to release overworked muscles, trigger point therapy to deactivate focal areas of tension, dry needling for deeper release, and myofascial release to restore tissue mobility. Joint mobilisation and muscle energy techniques may be used to address any joint restrictions affecting your movement.
Treatment is tailored to your specific sport and training demands. Whether you're a runner, gym-goer, cyclist, swimmer, or team sport athlete, your therapist will focus on the areas most relevant to your activity and individual presentation.
You can also expect targeted mobility exercises and recovery strategies tailored to your training. Regular maintenance sessions can help support your recovery and may reduce your injury risk over the long term.
What to Expect in Your Session
Your first session includes a movement and postural assessment alongside a discussion of your training history, current load, and any areas of concern. This ensures treatment is targeted to your specific needs rather than a generic sports massage.
Treatment pressure is firm and purposeful. Your therapist will communicate throughout and adjust the approach based on your feedback and the tissue response. Whether you are coming in for recovery after an event or proactive maintenance, each session is designed to help you move and perform better.
Sessions are available Monday and Wednesday at our Melbourne CBD clinic. Health fund rebates apply for remedial massage and myotherapy under most major funds with extras cover.
Every session is individually tailored. Your therapist will assess your specific needs and develop a treatment plan suited to you.
